STAR Victoria is proud to have
been supporting members in submitting their stories to the Disability Royal
Commission since it opened in April 2019. The Disability Royal Commission, or
the DRC, is an investigation into the lives of people living with disability.
Currently, the DRC is gathering
information from many groups of people living with disability, including
parents of children with disability, parents living with disability, young
people, Indigenous people as well as people living with different kinds of
disability. This is so the DRC can best understand what issues Australians
living with disability are facing.
The DRC will continue accepting
submissions until the 31st of December, 2022, before they publish
their findings and recommendations. These recommendations will be aimed at many
groups of people – from the government, to disability bodies, to schools – and
aim to better the lives of people living with disability.
The DRC is particularly
interested in hearing from young people and parents. STAR has been supporting
many parents to tell their stories. This includes help with written
submissions, online submissions and video submissions.
We hope that by submitting
these stories we can continue to make a difference, and we encourage people to
submit their stories if they haven’t already.
